Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson {Book Review}

Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge
by Mark Batterson

After Mark Batterson wrote a book called The Circle Maker, he began to get letters in response to his book about how regular prayer had changed lives. He realized he needed to share these stories of answered prayer. Draw the Circle takes 40 of these stories and arranges them into daily readings that will grow and stretch your prayer life. Mark's idea is to grab one thing in your life and circle it with prayer. And circle it, and circle it, and circle it until you see a response. Mark says, "Too often we pray ASAP prayers - As Soon As Possible. We need to start praying ALAT prayers - As Long As it Takes."

In our family, we have a habit of praying with each child at bedtime, but over the years we have found that the prayers also become a habit. They say the same words each night. And the 15 year old puts himself to bed. We realized we haven't been teaching our kids the personal part of prayer - of talking to a friend. We started reading this book as a family to help us learn more about prayer and start a habit of real prayer. All 3 kids (teen and pre-teen) are interested, and it has given us a start at a family time of talking to God. We have seen God moving as a response to our prayers, and it is exciting and faith building. I can't wait to see how this builds the kids' faith as we work through the book together!
